Dr. David Masunaga
Using Geometric Origami for the Holidays – It’s Not Just for Squares!

On Thursday, December 4, MMC will continue its 2025–2026 season with Dr. David Masunaga, joining us from Honolulu, Hawaii, for an online session: Using Geometric Origami for the Holidays: It’s Not Just for Squares!
A crowd favorite at our 2023 Conference of Workshops, David is known for his remarkable ability to merge mathematics, art, and joy. In this interactive session, he invites us to rediscover geometry through the ancient art of paper folding, in a hands-on and surprising way using nothing more than an ordinary 8 1⁄2 x 11 sheet of paper. Participants will explore how folding can reveal geometric relationships, spark curiosity, and even offer elegant solutions to seasonal challenges such as creative gift wrapping.
Have your paper ready to fold. No origami experience is required! David’s session promises to be both engaging and inspiring, showing how mathematical thinking can take shape in our hands.
A longtime and faraway MMC enthusiast, David brings warmth, humor, and deep mathematical insight to every presentation. His passion for connecting geometry to everyday materials reminds us that mathematics is not just something we study, but something we can create and feel.
Join us online on Thursday, December 4, 2025, for an evening that celebrates the beauty of mathematics and the creativity it inspires. Be ready to fold, laugh, and see geometry and the holidays through fresh eyes.
Oh, don’t forget to have your origami paper ready for some holiday foldable fun!
